summer is here! (well, officially anyways) other than holidays, summer is one of the main times when I struggle with continuing to keep eating mostly healthy, and also feeling healthy too! and we don’t wanna feel bad during the summer when the weather is great and we can be outside all day, right? lets get into it!
1. wake up before 10:30
I know that during the summer, at least for public schoolers especially, its one of the few times you can sleep in. well, you can view it that way, OR you can view it as a opportunity to create a good habit that will help a LOT when school starts again! I t also gives you plenty of time to get things done before you go to the pool, lake, beach, day camp, etc, so your not swamped with stuff to do when you get home that night, and can instead hang out with family or neighborhood friends!
2. create a morning and night routine
you’ve all seen those “that girl” morning routine vids all over instagram and pinterest, right? then you’re like “oo I wanna be like that” and then never get to it? a study said that it takes about 21 consecutive days of doing something that will make it into a habit. and guess what? summer has 96 days…so that’s plenty of time to get into a routine! here are a few of my steps that are in my morning and night routines each day
morning routine
make bed
eat breakfast
get dressed
straighten up room/open shades
skincare/makeup
bible reading
workout
night routine
finish up any last minute emails/texts
drink some water
change into pjs
pray/journal
skincare
brush teeth
read
go to bed 🙂
let me know if you’d like to see a more in-depth post of my routines!
3. workout every day
I know that this may be a challenge, but it doesn’t have to be an hour long sweating to death workout. it can be a short 10-20 minute run, maybe some body weight exercises, stretches, anything that will get your blood moving will increase your happiness and good adittude, and also will make you feel better 🙂
4. create a daily to-do list
whether this list has chores, activities, or random tasks that you need to get done, its great to have the things you need to accomplish each day written down, so that you can have accountability, even if its just on a note on your phone or a sheet of paper. it also helps if you have a weekly to do list, so you know what you need to get done by the end of the week.
5. go to bed early (as often as possible)
its summer, I know you want to be hanging out with your friends as late as possible, so dont think im saying do stay out late. what im saying, especially during the summer, is that the days when you dont have specific things to do in the evenings/nightime, prioritize going to bed early so that on the nights that you do have stuff planned, you aren’t super tired cause you stayed up till 12:00 the night before watching YouTube.
6. focus on healthy food for snacks
I know that a lot of times, dinner in the summer can get unhealthy and full of sugar and yummy food…which isnt a bad thing, but balancing it out with fruits and veggies for snacks, or even just healthier options, like yogurt or peanut butter bites, can really change the way you feel and also can help make your skin clearer!
7. focus on getting outside every day
getting outside and getting vitamin d from the sun is so important, and why now take advantage of the nice weather. you can even go to the pool and get a tan while your at it!
8. drink LOTS of water
dehydration is no joke, especially in these really hot June days, so make sure you are getting plenty of water in! it also helps a lot with your skin and your digestive system! its also important to pick up a glass of water before a soda or a juice (even though Caprisuns are pretty good 😏)
9. moisturize your face after swimming
this may seem really random (it kind is 😂) but you know how your face gets really dry and your nose gets runny after a long day of swimming? it always makes me feel like crap and sometimes I get a runny or stuffy nose afterwards and those are never fun. when you moisturize your face, it gets the dryness that the chlorine creates to go away, and your back to normal!
10. eat smoothie bowls
smoothie bowls are a delicious (and trendy…check out pinterest lol) way to get healthy food in, while also being refreshing! you can add some frozen fruits or ice in to make it like a slushy! you can also add granola or maybe even chocolate chip for an extra sweet treat on top! Hannah from the striped plaid has some great recipe ideas HERE.
I hope you guys enjoyed this post! I would love to hear any of your tips on staying healthy too – I love mixing things up!

I’ve been doing to-do lists this summer and they help me be so much more productive. also I totally know you mean about getting a runny nose after swimming… back when I did swim team, I would sneeze all night and the next morning, and it was the worst. I’ll have to try that! thanks!!
